COMTÉ

(24 MONTHS MATURATION) Comté is the king of French cheeses. During a 24-month maturation, the 35kg wheels of cheese develop an amazing depth of flavour – the underlying sweet note is accompanied by a rich flavour of roasted nuts and subtle creamy, yeasty finish.

ROQUEFORT PAPILLON

From the Midi Pyrénées region where all the worlds Roquefort are aged. Roquefort’s natural rind is shiny, with the interior richly marbled with bluey-green mould. The flavour is delicate and sweet with a rich-buttery, slightly spicy finish.

GRAND CONQUÉRANT CAMEMBERT

From the Normandy Region. It’s strong aromatic hints of wet straw, brassica and apples are a reminder of why this authentic cheese has become a proud symbol of French cheese-making skills.

BÛCHE JACQUIN DE MONTRESOR

Goat cheese from the Loire Valley region, it’s flavour is rich and creamy with an increased nuttiness. As the cheese ripens the rind develops a mottled blue mould growth, and the dry creamy centre softens to a smooth and very fine textured.

  • ‘Early’ birthday lunch for my wife at this wonderful French Bistro. Fabulous food, including vegetarian options, expansive French wine list and attentive and caring staff. We couldn’t fit in dessert so will definitely be back. We often travel by train and the bonus is that Bistro Papillon is only a very short walk from Wynyard Station. Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys genuine French cuisine.

  • Small and cosy atmosphere, does really feel like a hole in the wall French spot you find in Toulouse or something. Service was helpful and friendly, food was great (beef burgundy, escargot, and steak special), would recommend for any casual and special occasions.

  • If it’s no nonsense French cuisine you’re after then look no further than this spot. Full three course menu & a wide selection at that. Service was superb. I dropped my fork and within seconds, a replacement appeared on the table with no fuss. It is a two-hour dining session so be prepared to be ushered along with your orders & don’t think it rude. Totally enjoyed my choices…if only I could remember their French names I do remember that the creme brulee was tobfie for. Merci!

  • It was our first time visiting this lovely French restaurant last night. The four of us enjoyed every moment there. Ludo and his staff were so lovely and friendly, and they gave us 5-star service. The cozy atmosphere, the delicious dishes, the beautiful cocktails, and even the lemon sorbet shot were all amazing. We can’t thank you enough, Ludo. We will definitely be back now that we’ve found our favourite French restaurant in Sydney.

  • We enjoyed a lovely dinner at this intimate French bistro. The pork rillette, steak frites and Dame Blanche were highlights. We also enjoyed the palate cleanser lemon sorbet and vodka (though not being much of a drinker, I'd have preferred to have enjoyed the sorbet without the vodka poured on top). Service was warm and friendly. It's a cosy, dim-lit setting that feels relaxed and welcoming. There are some interesting decorations to be observed too! I'd be keen to visit again.
